Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech - High Atlas Mountains - Ait Ben Haddou - Ouarzazate - Draa Valley - Zagora
Your 4 Days Desert Tour From Marrakech to Erg Chigaga starts in the morning with pick-up from your accommodation in Marrakech. We leave the city and drive towards the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi n’Tichka pass with several stops for panoramic views and photos.
Along the way, you will pass traditional Berber villages and mountain landscapes before reaching Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah. This ancient fortified village is one of the most famous kasbahs in Morocco and is known for its traditional earthen architecture.
After visiting Ait Ben Haddou, we continue to Ouarzazate, often called the gateway to the desert. From there, the road follows the Draa Valley, famous for its long palm groves, old kasbahs, and southern villages.
We continue through Agdz and the valley road before arriving in Zagora. Dinner and overnight stay will be at a hotel or riad in Zagora.
Day 2: Zagora - Tamegroute - Mhamid - Erg Chigaga Desert
After breakfast, we continue south through the Draa Valley towards the desert. The road passes palm groves, small villages, and old caravan landscapes before reaching Tamegroute, a village known for its traditional pottery and old religious heritage.
After the visit, we continue to Mhamid El Ghizlane, the last village before the open Sahara. From Mhamid, the journey continues by 4x4 across desert tracks, rocky plains, and sand landscapes towards Erg Chigaga.
Upon arrival in Erg Chigaga, you will ride camels across the dunes and enjoy the sunset over the Sahara. After the camel trek, you will return to the desert camp.
Dinner will be served at the camp. In the evening, you can relax under the stars and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the desert. Overnight stay will be in a desert tent.
Day 3: Erg Chigaga - Lake Iriqui - Foum Zguid - Taznakht - Ouarzazate
Wake up early to enjoy the sunrise over the dunes before breakfast at the camp. After breakfast, we leave Erg Chigaga and continue across the wild desert landscapes.
The route passes through Lake Iriqui, a dry lake area surrounded by desert plains and rocky scenery. We continue towards Foum Zguid, where the paved road begins again.
After a short break, we drive towards Taznakht, a town known for traditional Moroccan carpets. The journey continues through southern landscapes until we arrive in Ouarzazate.
Dinner and overnight stay will be at a hotel or riad in Ouarzazate.
Day 4: Ouarzazate - Ait Ben Haddou - High Atlas Mountains - Marrakech
After breakfast, we leave Ouarzazate and begin the return journey to Marrakech. Depending on time, we can stop again near Ait Ben Haddou or continue directly towards the High Atlas Mountains.
The road crosses the Tizi n’Tichka pass, with several stops for panoramic views, coffee, or short breaks. You will pass Berber villages and mountain landscapes before reaching Marrakech.
