Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech - High Atlas Mountains - Ait Ben Haddou - Ouarzazate - Draa Valley - Zagora
Your 3 Days Desert Tour From Marrakech to Erg Chigaga starts in the morning with pick-up from your accommodation in Marrakech. We leave the city and drive towards the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi n’Tichka pass with several stops for panoramic views and photos.
Along the way, you will pass traditional Berber villages and mountain landscapes before reaching Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah. This ancient fortified village is one of Morocco’s most famous kasbahs and is known for its traditional earthen architecture.
After visiting Ait Ben Haddou, we continue to Ouarzazate, often called the gateway to the desert. From there, the road follows the Draa Valley, famous for its palm groves, old kasbahs, and southern villages.
We continue through Agdz and the valley road before arriving in Zagora. Dinner and overnight stay will be at a hotel or riad in Zagora.
Day 2: Zagora - Tamegroute - Mhamid - Erg Chigaga Desert
After breakfast, we continue south through the Draa Valley towards Mhamid. On the way, we will pass small desert villages and palm groves before stopping in Tamegroute, known for its traditional pottery and old religious heritage.
After the visit, we continue to Mhamid El Ghizlane, the last village before the open Sahara. From Mhamid, the journey continues by 4x4 across desert tracks, rocky plains, and sand landscapes towards Erg Chigaga.
Upon arrival, you will enjoy camel trekking and watch the sunset over the dunes. After the camel ride, you will return to the desert camp.
Dinner will be served at the camp. In the evening, you can relax under the stars and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the Sahara. Overnight stay will be in a desert tent.
Day 3: Erg Chigaga - Foum Zguid - Taznakht - Ouarzazate - High Atlas Mountains - Marrakech
Wake up early to enjoy the sunrise over Erg Chigaga before breakfast at the camp. After breakfast, we leave the desert and drive across the dry lake of Iriqui and desert tracks towards Foum Zguid.
The journey continues through the southern landscapes towards Taznakht, a town known for traditional Moroccan carpets. After a short stop, we continue to Ouarzazate and then cross the High Atlas Mountains again through the Tizi n’Tichka pass.
Several stops can be made along the way for photos, coffee, or short breaks. By the late afternoon or evening, we arrive back in Marrakech.
